The Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) Sabre is a light weight armoured vehicle with a 30mm gun. The Sabre was
developed when the CVR(T) Scorpion tank and CVR(W) Fox Armored car were taken out of service from the British Army at
approximately the same time. The Army had successfully employed the CVR(T) Scimitar with it's 30mm gun for years. The
decision was made to modify the existing redundant Scorpion chassis with a Fox turret and thus the Sabre was born. The
vehicle was similar to a Scimitar but not exactly the same turret design. The specs would be similar to the
Scorpion.

Notes on this Vehicle: CVR(T) SABRE (03 FD 88)
This CVR(T) Sabre 03 FD 88 has been restored, maintained and under gone several up-grades over the last four years.
The complete hull, turret and road wheels were needle scaled, cleaned, primed and painted in two colors. All the boxes,
accessories, latches and fittings were removed and either needle scaled or sand blasted at a separate site. All these
items were then cleaned, primed and painted before re-assembly. Every fastener used in the re-assembly of all the restored
components was new, either zinc plated (gold color) or stainless steel. A new cover for the rear cargo box was custom
made by a local upholstery shop. Custom vinyl graphics were applied on the fresh, dry, newly painted surfaces.
A Night Vision camera has been mounted in front of, and to the right of the drivers position. A 7” monitor was
installed inside the front right of the drivers position for viewing from the camera. This allows “head down” position
for driving and when the crew fires the main gun. The original periscope (driverperiscope” pic) can be put back in this
position if you care to and is part of the “spare/takeoff” group of items that will be included in the sale.
A pair of on-board battery tenders have been installed to top off and maintain the batteries. These are plugged into a
standard 110V outlet box located on the commander side (“110V” pic) that is powered by plugging in an extension cord
(“110 in” pic) into the external plug on the rear of the turret. This is not only for the tenders, this allows you to
plug in work lights or tools if you are working inside the turret. All the batteries were replaced about two years ago and
four new battery boxes were installed.
The Clansman intercom system is working well at all three crew positions. The system is turned on via the “interconnect”
box to the left of the commander’s seat via the “28VOLT” toggle (“clansman” pic). There is a standard 110V light switch
to the right rear of the gunner’s position in the turret marked “comm” as a secondary kill switch for turret clansman
power. A set of headphones and pressel switch are included for each position.
The main gun has been upgraded to an operational .50 cal BMG bolt action rifle. It is actually an AR-15 upper receiver
with barrel mounted in the mantle/steel tube that replicated the original 30mm barrel diameter. The “upper” barrel/breach
portion of the main gun that is mounted in the mantle IS NOT A FIREARM by ATF definition. It is only an “upper barrel
assembly” that can move across state lines with no issues at all. The manufacture’s (ZEL CUSTOM) web site
(www.tactilite.com) details the “Tactilite T2” unit’s information. Again this is not a firearm……….this is a “upper
barrel assembly” that can be shipped to, purchased and owned by anyone in any state that allows for ownership of a .50 BMG
cartridge firing rifle.
The pic marked “FFL” is a modified AR-15 Lower Receiver. THIS IS A FIREARM!
This one component must be transferred from my FFL dealer to your local FFL dealer in order for you to take position of
it. The cost for this on the purchasers end is usually $20 or $25 charged by your local FFL to do some simple paperwork.
This is the one component that will not leave with the Sabre. It will ship separately through FFL holders.
More details reference the gun are available upon inquiry. Make sure to watch the video! It is very impressive.
There is an ammunition rack to the right of the commander’s seat for ammo storage. A five round magazine comes with the
gun that has had almost no use but is included. The large 30mm ammo box that sits between the gunner and commander seat
has been removed and replace with a piece of aluminum tread plate for more area to stand on during rides. This ammo box
is included with the “take-off” items that will come with the Sabre if you would wish to re-install.
The engine has been trouble free and had regular inspections and maintenance as far as fluid inspection and topping off or
changing. |
